Bio

Chad Savage joined the Colorado State staff as the tight ends coach, following Jay Norvell from Nevada where he coached tight ends. Savage also serves as the Rams’ on-staff recruiting coordinator. For his efforts as a part of signing the 2022, 2023, and 2024 signing classes, Savage has been ranked as the highest-ranked recruiter in the Mountain West by 247Sports for three consecutive seasons.

Savage primarily recruits Southern California & Arizona for the Green and Gold and was instrumental in signing six key Rams in and around Los Angeles. He was also named to 247Sports.com’s “30 under 30” list for the 2022 season. Savage repeated his success on the recruiting trail the following year and was named Mountain West Recruiter of The Year for the 2nd consecutive season. At CSU, he guided WR Tory Horton to back-to-back 1000 yard seasons, along with an invite to the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl. Once again, following the Rams’ productive 2024 signing day, Savage was named 247Sport’s top recruiter in the conference – his third straight.

The Reno, Nev., native began his coaching career as an undergraduate assistant at The University of San Diego from 2016-18, then became a graduate assistant at Nevada from 2018- 19. He returned to USD for one season as the receivers coach before returning to Nevada to become the tight ends coach in 2021. While coaching for the Wolfpack, Savage helped Cole Turner continue his All-Mountain West career, as the second-team selection finished with 63 receptions for 677 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2021. Turner was a fifth-round selection by the Washington Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Savage earned his undergraduate degree from the University of San Diego in Communications Studies in 2018 and Master’s Degree from the University of Nevada.

Reputation

“Savage is the best I’ve been around. My time at Nevada with him was a blessing and I couldn’t be more grateful to have had him as a coach. I can call whenever, even to this day. He will take care of you, because at some point, I needed someone and he was who I went to. He took care of me and made sure things were straight through every step of my college football journey. He’s not like every other coach that’s just talk. Please believe it…I’ve been there.”

Romeo Doubs
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver

“Playing for Coach Savage was a huge factor in my development. He helped me take my game to the next level by teaching me the fundamentals of route running, understanding coverage, and defensive fronts. He holds you to a high standard on and off the field because he knows what it takes to be a great player. Coach Savage is also a great person that truly loves and wants the best for his players.”
